Malarone for Kids
November 20th 2002 saw the launch in the UK of Malarone
Paediatric, anti-malarial tablets in for kids. The good thing
about Malarone Paediatric is that it can be started just 1 day before
travel and only need to be continued for seven days after leaving
a malarious area. The weight of the child determines the dose -
for more information contact your doctor or travel clinic.
If you are thinking of taking children to areas
of the world where malaria is a risk then good prevention is essential.
Malarone Paediatric is available for children over 11kg in
weight.
You will need to see your Doctor or Travel Nurse
to obtain this medication.
For effective protection against Malaria, compliance
is vital. Malarone Paediatric is well tolerated and offers
a short simple course. It is available for children over 11kg.
Short Course
Malarone Paediatric is the shortest course
compared to all other Antimalarials, when you leave a malarious
area it is only taken for one week.
Malarone Paediatric is ideal for last minute
travellers as it can be started just one day before arriving in
a malarious area.
Malarone Paediatric is the only malaria medication
that targets both the liver and blood stages of malarial infection
within the body - so it only needs to be continued for one week
after returning from a malarious country. See the colour diagram
below which illustrates the lifecycle
of the mosquito and the development of malaria.
